Comparison

SquareTally vs Total Takeoffs

Choosing between these tools starts with the job you want to hand over: maintaining takeoff quantities and a product catalog, outsourcing the measuring, or pricing hardwood from your own dealer sheets. We make SquareTally; this comparison explains when to look at Total Takeoffs instead.

Check the Total Takeoffs package before comparing prices. Its software pricing and QuickBooks pages show different offers. SquareTally Solo is $79/month for material takeoffs, with room renders on Pro and Studio.

First, settle the software price

Total Takeoffs' main pricing page lists TradeTek Single User at $99/month or $995/year per computer, and Cloud User at $149/month or $1,495/year per computer. Its QuickBooks page still advertises $49/month and says bundles need a software purchase or subscription. Those pages do not establish that the $49 offer buys the same package. Request a quote that names the software, connector and recurring charges.

Its system requirements list Windows and macOS. SquareTally runs in a browser. Our Solo plan costs $79/month or $790/year for one seat; Pro is $215/month for five seats and Studio $429/month for fifteen. Paid plans include unlimited projects. Pro and Studio add room illustrations.

Software or an estimating service

Total Takeoffs also provides outsourced construction estimates and material takeoffs. Its pricing page advertises a 24–48-hour turnaround; confirm timing and scope for your particular drawings. That is a useful route when you want someone else to perform the takeoff. SquareTally does not offer that service: you calibrate the plan and trace the rooms yourself.

What reaches QuickBooks

The Total Takeoffs integration page describes importing catalog updates in either direction and importing takeoff lines into a QuickBooks estimate. It does not identify the QuickBooks edition. Ask for a demonstration using the edition your shop runs.

In SquareTally's material workflow, you choose the rooms, products and laying styles, review the prices, then create linked drafts in QuickBooks Online: a priced material estimate and a separate labor estimate with zero-priced lines for you to complete. Creating the drafts does not email the customer or create an invoice. Installation-scope projects instead create a single estimate from the lines you reviewed.

The connection creates or reuses the customer and items needed by the estimate; it does not synchronize your entire product catalog. Current QuickBooks export supports quotes with zero tax. For a quote with tax, use the branded PDF while native QuickBooks tax mapping is unavailable. Read about the connection.

Where SquareTally fits a hardwood dealer

  • Prices from your own sheets. Upload vendor PDFs, select a product and inspect the source page before accepting a price. Review the applicable dealer tier, unit and effective date against the sheet.
  • Editable waste allowances. Apply your waste rate per laying pattern to the measured room area. The order quantity rounds up to whole square feet. Carton ordering is a separate calculation: use the product's box coverage with the boxes converter.
  • Room illustrations on Pro and Studio. Show the chosen floor to the client as an illustration. Check the measured plan for dimensions; a render is not a construction drawing.

The material workflow uses one product and laying style per room. It does not plan carpet seams or optimize rolls. If those tasks drive your estimates, test a flooring layout tool such as MeasureSquare with a representative carpet job.
